SMS Opt-In Flow

SMS opt-in is a discrete consent action, separate from any other agreement.

Receiving SMS messages from PaxRent requires a separate, explicit opt-in step inside your account settings. Accepting our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy does NOT enroll you in SMS communications. You must enable SMS notifications per category (rent reminders, maintenance updates, lease notifications) inside your account before any SMS will be sent.

How discrete SMS opt-in works

PaxRent does not bundle SMS consent with any other agreement. The opt-in is fully granular: every notification category has its own SMS toggle that defaults to OFF until you explicitly enable it. Below is a walkthrough of the in-app flow.

Step 1: Sign in to your PaxRent account

SMS toggles are in your authenticated account settings. You cannot enable SMS from a public page or marketing form, only from inside your logged-in account.

Step 2: Open Notification Preferences

From the dashboard, navigate to Settings → Notification Preferences. This page lists every notification category with separate Email and SMS toggles.

Step 3: Enable SMS per category (defaults to OFF)

Each category has a separate SMS toggle. Below is an interactive representation of what you see. Notice that SMS toggles default to OFF and must be individually enabled. Email defaults are independent of SMS defaults.

The screenshot above is a faithful representation of the actual in-app Notification Preferences page. SMS toggles are independent per category and default to OFF.

Step 4: Save your preferences

Saving your preferences records each enabled toggle as an explicit consent action in our audit log, with timestamp, IP address, and user identifier. Audit log samples are available on request for compliance review.

What is NOT bundled with SMS opt-in

  • Terms of Service acceptance : required to use the platform; does not enroll you in SMS.
  • Privacy Policy acceptance : describes how data is handled; does not enroll you in SMS.
  • Account creation : creates your login; does not enroll you in SMS.
  • Lease signing or rent payment : transactional actions; do not enroll you in SMS.

None of the above actions can enable SMS messaging on your account. Only the explicit per-category SMS toggle inside Notification Preferences can.

How to opt out

You can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by:

  • Replying STOP to any SMS you receive from PaxRent. You will receive a one-time confirmation message and no further SMS will be sent.
  • Toggling SMS off in Settings → Notification Preferences for any or all notification categories. The change takes effect immediately.
  • Contacting support at support@paxrent.com.
